About this composition

This Oregon Port Orford cedarwood profile is based on a live GC/MS report for steam-distilled heartwood oil. It is compositionally distinct from Cedrus cedarwoods and from Texas/Virginian juniper cedarwoods, showing a cadinene-cadinol and oxygenated monoterpene profile with alpha-terpineol, borneol, and fenchol instead of cedrol-thujopsene dominance. All twelve quantified peaks from the Lot No. 13193 GC-MS component table (Shay and Company) are now represented; the table itself sums to approximately 73.6% of the oil, so remaining mass reflects unlisted/unnamed minor peaks not resolved in the public report.

A TRADITION OF BOTANICAL CURIOSITY

Traditional & reported uses

These uses reflect the profile's reported traditions and literature. They are not established treatment recommendations.

  • traditionally used in aromatherapy for grounding, forest-like calming blends
  • reported to support clear, easy breathing when diffused
  • used in perfumery for its fresh, citrus-tinged woody facet distinct from other cedarwoods
  • traditionally associated with a refreshing, revitalizing atmosphere in blends
  • used as a base note to add lift and brightness to woody accords

For aromatherapy and wellness use only — not medical advice. Effect statements are traditional/reported associations, not treatment claims. The Synergy Rating scores blend craft, harmony and safety, not medical efficacy. Read the safety framework.

What we're still learning · 2 data gaps

Good decisions start with knowing what is — and isn't — in the evidence.

  • Missing public source type: a directly viewable odor-strength reference that expresses Port Orford cedarwood on a native numeric 0-100 intensity scale; the current odor_intensity is an archive normalization from supplier language describing the oil as stronger than Virginian cedarwood and from sweet-woody/fresh aromatic descriptors.
  • CAS numbers for gamma-murolene, alpha-murolene, gamma-cadinene, and tau-cadinol were not directly confirmed in a public chemistry reference during this pass.
