A cited maximum is a limit, not a suggested dilution. Missing restrictions do not establish safety.
AromaWeb states that steam-distilled lemon oil is not phototoxic, in contrast to cold-pressed lemon peel oil. This distilled record therefore treats the bergaptene-related phototoxic limit as not applicable.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SCENT
Inside the oil
An oil's character comes from its natural chemical composition. Explore each constituent to understand the connections.
About this composition
This record is anchored to Plant Therapy's public 2025 GC-FID reports for steam-distilled Citrus x limon peel oil. The cited distilled profile is strongly limonene-dominant with beta-pinene and gamma-terpinene as the main secondary monoterpenes, while oxygenated aldehydes such as geranial and neral remain minor. Public AromaWeb and Plant Therapy references agree that steam-distilled lemon is the non-phototoxic lemon style because the phototoxic furocoumarin fraction associated with cold-pressed peel oil is not carried over in the same way.

What we're still learning · 2 data gaps
Good decisions start with knowing what is — and isn't — in the evidence.
- The `max_dermal_pct` value of 4 is sourced from Plant Therapy's public topical guidance for this steam-distilled lemon product style ('Dilute to 2-4% in a carrier'), not from a directly readable Tisserand or IFRA leave-on monograph page.
- Odor intensity 55 is an archive normalization of public scent language such as 'fresh and zesty citrus scent' rather than a published 0-100 measurement.
