A LITTLE CARE GOES A LONG WAY
Using it thoughtfully
Read the full safety context before bringing this oil into your routine.
- Cited dermal maximum · leave-on
- No restriction cited
- Phototoxicity
- Not flagged in this profile
- Oxidation risk
- high
A cited maximum is a limit, not a suggested dilution. Missing restrictions do not establish safety.
AromaWeb's public safety references state that tangerine oil is not phototoxic, and steam-distilled citrus oils are generally not phototoxic because furocoumarins are non-volatile. The reviewed IFRA certificate for tangerine essential oil lists Class 5 as not restricted.
Contraindications & cautions
- minorAvoid oxidized tangerine oil because oxidation of limonene-rich citrus oils increases skin-sensitization risk.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SCENT
Inside the oil
An oil's character comes from its natural chemical composition. Explore each constituent to understand the connections.
About this composition
This record follows the dataset roster's steam-distilled extraction assignment for tangerine and uses a directly readable GC-MS table from a 2016 steam-distillation study on tangerine peels purchased in Lagos, Nigeria. The safety notes and aromatic descriptors are supplemented with AromaWeb's public tangerine profile and a public IFRA certificate for tangerine essential oil. Because steam distillation shifts citrus composition relative to expressed peel oils, this file is intentionally distinct from the cold-pressed tangerine record.

What we're still learning · 2 data gaps
Good decisions start with knowing what is — and isn't — in the evidence.
- No public source reviewed in this pass provided directly measured volatility-rate or tenacity-hour values for steam-distilled tangerine essential oil.
- The odor intensity is an archive normalization of AromaWeb's qualitative 'Medium' aroma-strength label rather than a published 0-100 instrument scale.
