Spikenard Oil (also called Nard) is one of the oldest of the sacred oils, and is the ointment mentioned in the New Testament. Mary Magdalene is supposed to have used it to anoint her master’s feet. It has traditionally been a part of the incense used in many religious traditions. From a spiritual aspect, it is believed to inspire devotion and add to inner peace. There are those who say it aids in finding their inner balance, spiritually and emotionally. It is an essential component in any spiritual blend. It is recommended for use as part of “inner journeying” blends. It is an emotionally healing oil, helping one to release old fears and grudges, and move on. Narde has been used for millennium as a healing agent for skin disturbances, and as a beauty aid to maintain youthful skin. As a relative of valerian, it may be useful in treating insomnia and migraines. Kurt Schnaubelt, in Advanced Aromatherapy writes of Spikenard: “This oil consists primarily of sedative components. It contains only sesquiterpenoids, such as valeranol, valerenal, and especially valeranone, which are responsible for the sedative effects. The external application of the oil, rubbed over the heart or the solar plexus, provides the desired sedative effect. This oil has a distinct affinity for the skin, and is one of the few oils which has any effect against dandruff.” One aromatherapist blends it with Roman Chamomile, Petitgrain, and Clary. She says it is a wonderful relaxant for tight muscles, especially in the shoulders, back of the neck. Gumbel says that Spikenard Essential Oil is the oil to use in seeking inner balance, while Worwood says that its use will encourage forgiveness, and instill calm and, again, balance. There is much talk today about the sustainability of Spikenard. Our supplier has set up 2 distillation units in very remote parts of Nepal. This area was badly hit by the earthquake of 2015, and by beginning the harvest and distillation of wild harvested Spikenard, our supplier is able to bring some prosperity to this area. The downloaded source document is preserved with its content fingerprint, so later changes do not overwrite the evidence. Archiving alone does not establish its report type or quantitative validity.

Evidence gap

Original analytical report status needs confirmation

These source documents are saved, but their status as original laboratory reports is unconfirmed or they are publisher summaries. They remain outside historical anomaly conclusions.

Evidence gap

Chemical extraction needs review

Automatically extracted figures are visible for inspection. They are excluded from historical anomaly conclusions until the extraction is reviewed.

Evidence gap

Comparison context is incomplete

Missing or unconfirmed: plant part, extraction method, origin, analysis method, batch, exact analysis date. Unknown values are not assumed to match known values.

Evidence gap

Numerical comparison is not supported for this report

The source extraction identifies mixed or multiple assays. A single comparable measurement series has not been established.

Investigate

Extracted percentages exceed 100%

The quantified total is 119.99%. Check for repeated peaks, mixed tables, or a transcription problem before using these values.

Evidence gap

Source extraction has review notes

Some source peak rows could not be fully verified or quantified. Multiple assay columns or mixed tables require separate review. The source includes reproduction restrictions; the archived original remains private. Some source peaks overlap or combine constituents; independent percentages may not be available. Additional source extraction notes require review against the original document.

Evidence gap

Numerical comparison is not supported for this report

The source extraction identifies mixed or multiple assays. A single comparable measurement series has not been established.

Evidence gap

Repeated constituent identity needs checking

More than one extracted row identifies the same constituent. Its percentage is withheld from the comparison until the source rows are resolved.

Investigate

Extracted percentages exceed 100%

The quantified total is 118.04%.

The source describes the analysis as qualitative. Its listed figures remain visible, but are excluded from numerical historical anomaly conclusions.

Evidence gap

Repeated constituent identity needs checking

More than one extracted row identifies the same constituent. Its percentage is withheld from the comparison until the source rows are resolved.

Evidence gap

Source extraction has review notes

The source describes a qualitative GC/MS analysis; these figures are not validated mass fractions. The source includes reproduction restrictions; the archived original remains private. Additional source extraction notes require review against the original document.

Evidence gap

Not enough comparable history to assess differences

A range requires at least three earlier, reviewed original reports with the same botanical, chemotype, origin, plant part, extraction, analysis method, percentage basis and storage context. Missing and trace values are never replaced with zero.
