Lemon Eucalyptus is rich in citronellal, an aldehyde that gives the oil its fresh lemon aroma, with soft notes of rose and a cool edge of camphor. Citronellal is also the reason this oil has such a long history in natural cleaning blends and in preparations made to discourage insects. The name of this tree changed in 1995. Botanists had placed it in the genus Eucalyptus since 1848, and then a full study of the group moved it, along with the bloodwoods and the spotted gums, into a genus of its own called Corymbia. You may still see this oil sold as Eucalyptus citriodora, and both names belong to the same tall, smooth-barked tree with lemon-scented leaves. Lemon Eucalyptus can support easy breathing, and it tends to be most useful in cleaning blends and room sprays. Citronellal belongs to the aldehyde family, so dilute this oil in a carrier for any blend you apply to the skin. Our certified organic Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil is steam distilled from the gray-green leaves of trees growing in the wild landscape of Madagascar.
