It is a beautifully aromatic and therapeutic quality oil that is well suited for wellness, cosmetic, aromatherapy, spiritual and fragrancing applications. Frankincense resin has been used for centuries for many of the same applications mentioned above. It is believed that the Biblical references to incense are direct references to frankincense resin. According to the story of the three wise men (Magi) within the Gospel, frankincense resin was among the three precious gifts given to the baby Jesus. A member of the Burseraceae plant family, Boswellia carteri is a species of frankincense that is native to Somalia and Somaliland. Boswellia carteri are small trees that tend to grow in more rocky and mountainous regions. The trees are prized for the golden, aromatic oleoresin that seeps from the tree when it is cut or injured. The dried resin helps to protect the injured area of the tree as it heals. The properties that make the resin so beneficial for protecting the tree also make the resin incredibly advantageous when incorporated into personal care applications.
