They vary greatly in terms of their chemical composition and safety. Always ensure you check carefully what you are purchasing and how to use the oil safely. Common name: sweet basil Latin name: Ocimum basilicum Botanical family: Lamiaceae (Labiatae) Method of extraction: steam distillation Plant part used to extract the oil: leaves Cultivation method: organic farming Area of origin: Central Macedonia, Greece Historical notes: Basil CT linalool or ‘sweet basil’ essential oil is extracted from Ocimum basilicum – one of many plants in the Ocimum genus. The name of the genus and the species originates from the Ancient Greek words‘ὤκιμον’ (ṓkimon)for basil and ‘βασιλικός’ (basilikós) meaning “royal”. Some believe that basil has been named after the terrifying ‘basilisk’, a half-lizard, half-dragon creature with a fatal stare. Basil grows profusely throughout Greecebut it is thought to originate from the tropical regions of Asia or Central Africa. Ancient Greeks thought that basil had magical properties. Famous Greek physician Hippocrates (c. 460 – c. 370 BC) recommended herbal remedies with basil for heart problems and digestive disorders (such vomiting and constipation) and wound healing. Apparently,Greeks and Romans are said to have believed that the most potent basil would only grow from the seeds sown while ranting and swearing. Let us reassure you that our basil is sown with nothing but love! 😉 Basil has been used for centuries in religious rituals. More evidence needed for this report
What the evidence tells you
3 reports connected; 3 directly linked by the supplier. Read the evidence before comparing chemistry.
3 source documents archived
The downloaded source document is preserved with its content fingerprint, so later changes do not overwrite the evidence. Archiving alone does not establish its report type or quantitative validity.
Report linked from the product page
The supplier connects this product to the report. Confirm the batch on the bottle before applying these figures to a purchase.
Original analytical report status needs confirmation
These source documents are saved, but their status as original laboratory reports is unconfirmed or they are publisher summaries. They remain outside historical anomaly conclusions.
Chemical extraction needs review
Automatically extracted figures are visible for inspection. They are excluded from historical anomaly conclusions until the extraction is reviewed.
Comparison context is incomplete
Missing or unconfirmed: exact analysis date. Unknown values are not assumed to match known values.
Product listing and linked report record different identity details
extraction method: product lists “steam distillation”; report lists “Steam Distilled Essential Oil”. Wording or historical batch differences may explain this. Confirm identity and the stock batch with the supplier.
Source extraction has review notes
Additional source extraction notes require review against the original document.

Not enough comparable history to assess differences
A range requires at least three earlier, reviewed original reports with the same botanical, chemotype, origin, plant part, extraction, analysis method, percentage basis and storage context. Missing and trace values are never replaced with zero.
