Some of the traditional uses include the topical application of turmeric juice to assist with the healing of wounds and bruises. Turmeric paste was also applied to ease various skin conditions, such as chicken pox or acne. Over 100 different terms for turmeric can be found in Ayurvedic literature, including ‘haridra’ (‘one who is golden coloured’) and ‘jayanti’ (‘one who is victorious over diseases’). In the Hindu religion, turmeric is seen as both auspicious and sacred and is used in marriage rituals and as a protective amulet. Turmeric rhizomes are used fresh or boiled in water and dried, after which they are ground into a deep orange-yellow powder commonly used as a colouring and flavouring agent in many Asian cuisines, especially for curries, as well as for dyeing (e.g. Buddhist robes), characteristics imparted by the principal turmeric constituent, curcumin. Evidence gap

Original analytical report status needs confirmation

These source documents are saved, but their status as original laboratory reports is unconfirmed or they are publisher summaries. They remain outside historical anomaly conclusions.

Evidence gap

Chemical extraction needs review

Automatically extracted figures are visible for inspection. They are excluded from historical anomaly conclusions until the extraction is reviewed.

Evidence gap

Comparison context is incomplete

Missing or unconfirmed: exact analysis date. Unknown values are not assumed to match known values.
