About this composition
This Hiba wood record is based on a directly readable GC-MS study of Aomori hiba wood-chip essential oil and a current supplier information pack for Thujopsis dolabrata wood oil. The published steam-distilled wood oil is sesquiterpene-dominant, led by thujopsene and epicedrol, with smaller cuparene and himachalene fractions.

A TRADITION OF BOTANICAL CURIOSITY
Traditional & reported uses
These uses reflect the profile's reported traditions and literature. They are not established treatment recommendations.
- traditionally used in aromatherapy for grounding, calming, meditative blends
- reported to support restful sleep when diffused in the evening
- used in perfumery for its distinctive woody, medicinal, slightly sweet facet
- traditionally associated with easing occasional mental fatigue and supporting focus
- shares the traditional insect-deterrent reputation of other Chamaecyparis/Thujopsis wood oils
- used in massage blends for a warming, woody sensory profile
For aromatherapy and wellness use only — not medical advice. Effect statements are traditional/reported associations, not treatment claims. The Synergy Rating scores blend craft, harmony and safety, not medical efficacy. Read the safety framework.
What we're still learning · 3 data gaps
Good decisions start with knowing what is — and isn't — in the evidence.
- No public source found in this pass that publishes aroma intensity on the repository's native 0-100 scale; the stored 72 value is a normalization from Hysses 'Moderate to Strong' and Bartok Design 'Strength of Aroma: Strong'.
- The IFRA certificate provides 44.66% for Category 2 and lists several dermal categories as not limited; no public source was found in this pass that states a single AromaForge-native leave-on max dermal percentage for Thujopsis dolabrata wood oil.
- Table 1 of the Hirosaki 2019 paper identifies 25 total compounds summing to 75.0%; several minor entries (beta-elemene, alpha-funebrenes, aromadendrene, aromadendr-9-ene, patchoulene, beta-chamigrene, beta-eudesmene, allo-aromadendrene oxide, alpha-costol, alpha-bisabolol, cis/Z-alpha-bisabolene epoxide) have OCR-corrupted or illegible percentage values in the only located full-text copy of this paper and were not added to avoid invented numbers; closure therefore remains below the 0.95 target with currently verifiable public data.
