A cited maximum is a limit, not a suggested dilution. Missing restrictions do not establish safety.
No public source reviewed in this pass identified a furocoumarin-driven phototoxic restriction for this Boswellia sacra x Juniperus virginiana co-extract.
Contraindications & cautions
- moderateThe supplier SDS classifies this co-extract as a skin irritant and skin sensitizer, so dilute before leave-on use and avoid application on reactive or broken skin.
- minorThe IFRA certificate limits category 5A leave-on use to 1.18%, so use in skin products should stay within that published ceiling.

About this composition
This Hermitage material is a finished co-extraction of Boswellia sacra gum with Virginian cedarwood rather than a standard single-botanical distillation. Live review on 2026-07-08 confirmed that Hermitage's public product page, public product API for product 24448, and the Hermitage Oils Italy mirror all identify the material as Boswellia sacra x Juniperus virginiana with Sacra/Somalia and Cedarwood/USA origin wording. On the same date, direct retrieval of the public Hermitage uploads URLs exposed three readable primary documents for the finished material: the SDS dated 2023-11-06, the IFRA 51 certificate dated 2025-11-02, and the fragrance-allergen certificate dated 2025-11-02. Those live PDFs materially upgrade this draft. The readable SDS now supplies a product-specific range profile for the co-extract, led by alpha-cedrene, cedrol, beta-cedrene, alpha-pinene, beta-caryophyllene, limonene, and carvone, while the readable allergen certificate adds exact declared values for minor listed allergens including benzyl benzoate 0.0300%, eugenol 0.0150%, isoeugenol 0.0280%, benzaldehyde 0.0065%, and carvone 0.196%. This pass re-fetched and re-read the allergen certificate directly: it reports coumarin (CAS 91-64-5) as "-" (not detected, limit of detection 0.01%), so a prior draft's "coumarin 0.0150%" figure was a transcription error (0.0150% is eugenol's declared value) and has been removed from this composition_notes description; no coumarin row was ever added to the constituents array, so no row-level fix was needed. The same certificate confirms combined cedrene (alpha + beta, CAS 469-61-4/546-28-1) at 32%, consistent with the SDS-derived alpha-cedrene and beta-cedrene rows below. The product remains a proprietary finished blend-like extract rather than a single-botanical oil, so the archive keeps only directly readable finished-material data and does not merge in parent-oil GC tables from separate Boswellia sacra or Juniperus virginiana references.

What we're still learning · 3 data gaps
Good decisions start with knowing what is — and isn't — in the evidence.
- The readable Hermitage SDS gives product-specific concentration bands rather than a full GC/MS peak table, so several retained constituent rows can be verified only as min-max ranges and not as exact `pct_typical` values. Missing source type: a finished-material GC/MS or COA for the Boswellia sacra x Juniperus virginiana co-extract with exact percentages for the dominant peaks.
- Odor intensity 82 remains an archive normalization from Hermitage's live qualitative odor description rather than a native published 0-100 measurement.
- No public source reviewed in this pass published a numeric volatility-rate or tenacity-hour profile for the co-extract, and oxidation_risk was not stated as an explicit oil-level label in the supplier documents, so those fields remain null.
