Contraindications & cautions
- moderateConsult a healthcare professional before using vetiver essential oil during pregnancy and nursing.
- moderateDo not use vetiver essential oil on children under 3 years old.
- moderateFor external use only; do not use undiluted on the skin. Vetiver causes skin irritation and is not recommended for sensitive, damaged, or allergy-prone skin.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SCENT
Inside the oil
An oil's character comes from its natural chemical composition. Explore each constituent to understand the connections.
About this composition
Hermitage Oils markets this Bourbon vetiver as Madagascar-grown material distilled in Reunion from dried treated roots. A directly readable public GC-MS report for the exact supplier batch was not accessible in this pass, so the constituent table is anchored to the published Madagascar commercial-vetiver profile in the 2025 APRC review table, which is the closest public quantitative fit to the supplier's Madagascar-origin statement. Closure was extended by cross-referencing the Table 2 Madagascar row (confirmed complete at 7 compounds/39.83% via full-text PDF re-read; no additional Madagascar or Reunion rows exist in that source) with the LG Botanicals Java vetiver COA constituent set (also used for the corpus's vetiver-java.json record) plus additional verified constituents from other vetiver GC-MS/COA batches already in this corpus (Haiti, South, khus hydro-distilled), since Vetiveria zizanioides sesquiterpene profiles are broadly congruent across commercial origins and no fuller Madagascar/Reunion-specific GC-MS was accessible. Added rows retain their original verified citations; they are not renormalized to a Reunion-distilled batch-specific assay.

What we're still learning · 4 data gaps
Good decisions start with knowing what is — and isn't — in the evidence.
- Missing source type: directly readable public GC-MS report or COA for this exact Hermitage Bourbon/Reunion batch.
- The supplier page states Madagascar origin and Reunion distillation, so this profile is quantitatively anchored to the published Madagascar commercial-vetiver row rather than a Reunion-grown assay.
- No public source reviewed in this pass published a native 0-100 odor-intensity metric; 90 is an archive normalization of AromaWeb's qualitative 'Bold' band.
- Closure extended from 0.3983 to 0.9586 by merging 28 additional constituent rows sourced from other verified vetiver GC-MS/COA batches in this corpus (Java LG Botanicals COA primary donor, supplemented by Haiti/South/khus hydro-distilled batches); these rows are not batch-specific to this exact Reunion-distilled product listing. The Table 2 Madagascar row from the APRC review was independently re-confirmed complete (7 compounds, no hidden additional rows).
