THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SCENT
Inside the oil
An oil's character comes from its natural chemical composition. Explore each constituent to understand the connections.
About this composition
This profile is built from a recent peer-reviewed GC-MS/GC-FID analysis of commercial blue tansy essential oil and older literature summaries reproduced in public abstracts for Moroccan Tanacetum annuum. Across those sources the oil is consistently sabinene-camphor-myrcene led, with blue color arising from chamazulene formed during distillation. Closure was extended in this pass by reusing the fuller constituent set already verified for the same species (Tanacetum annuum) in the tansy-blue.json record, which is anchored to the same peer-reviewed GC-MS/GC-FID study (sagepub 10.1177/1934578X21990194) plus a public technical data sheet.

What we're still learning · 3 data gaps
Good decisions start with knowing what is — and isn't — in the evidence.
- No directly measured public volatility-rate or tenacity-hour data were verified in this pass.
- A public primary source for 3,6-dihydrochamazulene CAS identification was not verified in this pass, so its CAS is left null rather than guessed.
- The stored odor_intensity 50 is an archive normalization of AromaWeb's qualitative 'Medium' aroma strength, not a native published 0-100 measurement.
