A cited maximum is a limit, not a suggested dilution. Missing restrictions do not establish safety.
The Good Scents folded-mandarin safety note states folded mandarin oils contain small amounts of phototoxic furocoumarins but are not high enough to require special restrictions when used alone; it instead directs formulators to keep the combined bergapten (5-MOP) level in the finished product within the cited total limit. A separate public Mandarin 5-Fold IFRA usage sheet gives a 13% Category 5A leave-on limit, which is used here as the best public folded-mandarin dermal ceiling located in this pass.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SCENT

About this composition
This profile is anchored to a directly readable published table for five-fold mandarin oil and paired with the live Hermitage product page for the exact seasonal commercial variant. Hermitage's current product schema states that the material is produced by one-time vacuum-distillation fractionation that reduces terpene content to a five-fold concentrate, for Citrus reticulata peel oil from Italy, Season 2025, with a stated minimum 36-month refrigerated shelf life. The public study is not the Hermitage batch itself, but it is a process-matched five-fold mandarin composition and shows the expected concentrated red mandarin pattern: reduced limonene with elevated gamma-terpinene, linalool, geranyl acetate, methyl N-methylanthranilate, and heavier sesquiterpene support compared with single-fold mandarin peel oil. A separate public three-page IFRA usage sheet for Mandarin 5-Fold gives a Category 5A maximum use level of 13%, which is the oil-level dermal figure retained here because it matches the same folded-five-fold material class rather than an unfurled red mandarin oil. The Good Scents folded-mandarin reference also preserves the relevant phototoxic handling: folded mandarin oils contain small amounts of furocoumarins but are stated not to require special restrictions when used alone, provided the total bergapten in the finished product stays within the cited combined limit. This pass added the remaining directly readable minor 5FMO constituents from the same Table 1 (beta-pinene, p-cymene, beta-caryophyllene, beta-farnesene, D-germacrene, terpinen-4-ol, alpha-terpineol, trans-carveol, cis-p-mentha-2,1-dienol, beta-cis-terpineol, p-mentha-1-dien-8-ol, and decanal) to raise the closure sum above 0.95 without exceeding the published table total.

What we're still learning · 3 data gaps
Good decisions start with knowing what is — and isn't — in the evidence.
- The retained 13% `max_dermal_pct` comes from a public Mandarin 5-Fold IFRA usage sheet mirrored as a downloadable PDF rather than from a producer-issued Hermitage batch certificate, so the exact commercial batch still lacks a first-party public IFRA source.
- Missing public source type: a producer GC-MS or COA for the exact Hermitage commercial batch rather than a process-matched five-fold mandarin literature sample.
- Odor intensity 85 is an archive normalization from the live product page's qualitative wording and customer-review language about unusually high impact rather than a source-native 0-100 laboratory measure.
