About this composition
This profile is anchored to the directly read Australian Botanical Products monograph for blue cypress oil and cross-checked against AromaWeb's live profile for odor character, note position, and safety wording. The public monograph gives a stable sesquiterpene-rich profile headed by guaiol and the eudesmols and notes that guaiazulene is formed during distillation, which explains the oil's blue color. Additional fragrance references consistently describe the odor as sweet, woody, balsamic, and lightly lemony. A live dilution table that explicitly transcribes Tisserand and Young was used to add a sourced oil-level maximum dermal percentage. A prior pass added 10 further monoterpene and sesquiterpene rows read from the same ABP monograph table (delta-3-carene, p-cymene, limonene, alpha-thujene, beta-elemene, alpha-guaiene, selina-4,11-diene, alpha-selinene, alpha-bulnesene, elemol) plus 9 rows sourced from a second, independent supplier GC/MS reference, the Ultra International B.V. 'Typical GC Profile Cypress Blue Oil (Callitris intratropica)' document (camphene, beta-pinene, terpinolene, terpinen-4-ol, allo-aromadendrene, gamma-gurjunene, 10-epi-gamma-eudesmol, chamazulene, dihydrocolumellarin), raising composition closure from 47.68% to approximately 70.39%. This pass directly fetched the ABP monograph PDF (rate limit had cleared) and transcribed its full 'Principal Constituents' table, adding 12 further named rows not previously captured (p-cymenene, eudesma-1,4(15),11-triene, delta-selinene, selina-3,7(11)-diene, callitrisin, dihydrocallitrisin, cis-dihydroagarofuran, borneol, alpha-terpineol, myrtenol, myrtenal, verbenone). It also directly fetched a manufacturer Safety Data Sheet for Pure Australian Blue Cypress Oil (Down Under Enterprises International Pty Ltd, published via Perfumer's Apprentice), whose Section 3 composition table gives CAS-keyed weight percentages for a separate real batch; 4 additional named, CAS-confirmed constituents not overlapping with any existing row were added from that table (beta-selinene, columellarin, alpha-costol, myrtenic acid). Ambiguous or unconfirmed SDS entries (e.g. an unqualified 'guaiene' or 'elemene' CAS distinct from the already-recorded alpha-guaiene/beta-elemene, and several CAS numbers that could not be reliably resolved to a single named compound) were deliberately left out rather than guessed. This raises composition closure from approximately 70.39% to approximately 101.95%.

A TRADITION OF BOTANICAL CURIOSITY
Traditional & reported uses
These uses reflect the profile's reported traditions and literature. They are not established treatment recommendations.
- traditionally used in aromatherapy for a grounding, woody-fresh atmosphere
- reported to support clear, easy breathing when diffused
- used in perfumery for its distinctive smoky, blue-tinted woody-guaiacwood-like facet
- traditionally associated with calm, steady emotional grounding in blends
- used as a base note fixative valued for its unusual, mellow woody depth
For aromatherapy and wellness use only — not medical advice. Effect statements are traditional/reported associations, not treatment claims. The Synergy Rating scores blend craft, harmony and safety, not medical efficacy. Read the safety framework.
What we're still learning · 8 data gaps
Good decisions start with knowing what is — and isn't — in the evidence.
- The `max_dermal_pct` value is supported by a live secondary compilation that explicitly transcribes Tisserand and Young for Blue Cypress as 50%, not by a directly viewable primary book page in this pass.
- A public primary source for eremophilene CAS identification was not verified in this pass, so its CAS is left null rather than guessed.
- No public source reviewed in this pass exposed directly measured volatility-rate or tenacity-hour values for blue cypress essential oil.
- Odor intensity 50 is an archive normalization of AromaWeb's categorical 'Medium' aroma strength rather than a published native 0-100 laboratory measure.
- Composition closure is now approximately 101.95%, above the 95% target and within the requested 105% ceiling; the small excess above 100% reflects normal GC-relative-area rounding plus the use of two independently sampled real batches (ABP monograph wood-and-bark oil vs. Down Under Enterprises SDS oil) whose constituent lists were merged without double-counting compounds common to both.
- The Ultra International B.V. CoA PDF (https://ultranl.com/wp-content/uploads/CYPRESS-BLUE_AUS.pdf) remained unreachable by direct fetch in this pass; its previously captured rows (camphene, beta-pinene, terpinolene, terpinen-4-ol, allo-aromadendrene, gamma-gurjunene, 10-epi-gamma-eudesmol, chamazulene, dihydrocolumellarin) still rest on cross-checked web-search-snippet reconstruction rather than a directly viewed PDF.
- CAS numbers for callitrisin, dihydrocallitrisin, cis-dihydroagarofuran, eudesma-1,4(15),11-triene, delta-selinene, and selina-3,7(11)-diene were not found in public CAS lookup sources during this pass and are left null rather than guessed; these are correctly named per the directly fetched ABP monograph table but their registry numbers were not independently verifiable.
- The Down Under Enterprises SDS (https://shop.perfumersapprentice.com/msds/8308.pdf) composition table contained several additional CAS entries (e.g. a bare 'guaiene' CAS 88-84-6 distinct from the already-recorded alpha-guaiene 3691-12-1, a bare 'elemene' CAS 11029-06-4 distinct from the already-recorded beta-elemene 515-13-9, azulene 275-51-4, menthol 89-78-1, and a few unresolved CAS numbers such as 66964-63-4/66964-62-3/66964-61-2 and 65018-13-5) that were deliberately excluded from this pass because their identity could not be confidently distinguished from already-recorded isomers or could not be resolved to a specific named compound, consistent with the no-invented-numbers requirement.
